3 Good Ideas for Families to Make a Habit of Giving Thanks

A few weeks ago, I told you about  how important it is to make a habit of giving thanks. And today, I want to share 3 ideas that have been very useful in my family when it comes to practicing gratitude on a daily basis:

Start Small

What was the funniest thing that happened to you today? This question is magical, and presents the opportunity for you to learn about the things your children value. Give them your full attention, and share the things you like with them as well. When we think about what triggers positive emotions, and recognize these rewarding experiences, we can connect with something we are thankful for. Open your eyes to these experiences, acknowledge their importance, share them with your children, and value the positive experiences that are also important for your kids. Are you willing to have this conversation at the end of the day? If so, tell me how it goes.

What We Like About Our Home – A Game

I love it when I sit down with my family at mealtimes and talk about the best things in our lives. We begin by reviewing what we enjoy doing together, and we always end up remembering something we did during the day. These types of conversations make us see the material things that fill our lives: having a library with the best children’s stories, being able to hug one another on the sofa while we watch TV, the taste of homemade food, a window with a wonderful view, or a patio where we can run freely. To relive a good time is to enjoy it again.

Illustrate the 3 Best Moments of the Day

Keep a gratitude journal like  this one I give you. It’s so much fun because kids can draw their favorite experiences of the day. This is a great family activity, as parents and children can share their memories and get to know each other better. In addition, this family activity encourages communication and helps to establish stronger bonds.
