5 Tips to Help Your Kids Build Healthy Habits

¿How to cultivate amongst the little ones good habits that will help them be healthier or live a longer life? I share these habits with you:

Introduce a variety of food into their diet: One of the most pressing issues for parents is getting their kids who have just started to eat solid foods used to different textures and flavors. There’s no magic formula, however, as every child has his or her own rhythm. That said, there are definitely some useful tips that might help, like eating together as a family, letting your children explore their food and serving new foods on a regular basis. Remember to avoid serving your children too many sweets, packaged juices and processed foods. Always include fresh fruit and vegetables in their meals and snacks.

Physical activity: Toddlers have a great deal of energy, and this is an ideal age to teach them the importance of making physical activity a habit in their lives. Take them to the park several times a week, and play games with them that involve running, jumping or going over obstacles. Enjoy this activity with them and show them that exercising is fun!

Drink water!: Offer your kids a glass of water several times a day, and tell them how important it is to stay hydrated all day long.

Talk about their feelings: Promote their overall well-being by providing spaces where kids can begin understanding, expressing and channeling their emotions in a healthy way. Use strategies like showing them flashcards with drawings of different feelings and discussing them. For example, ask your children: How do you feel when you go to the park? Show your kids the flashcards with all the different emotions and ask them to choose the cards that best represent their feelings. When you offer moments like these, you help your little ones work on their self-knowledge and emotional intelligence.

Boost your kids’ self-esteem: Always find something positive to say about what your children are doing or saying. Use positive reinforcement and point out their talents. For example, if your kids like to sing, then give them the opportunity to do so through singing games or videos.
